Zebras are African equines with distinctive black-and-white striped coats. They are vessels of moral purity, and saving one's life can make even a child murderer morally pure.

History

PreFAP

Zebras, horses, and donkeys comprise the genus Equus, which originated in North America approximately 4.07 million years ago. Equines (sans horses) entered Eurasia around 3 million years ago, and zebras split from donkeys 2.8 million years ago. Zebras entered Africa around 2.3 million years ago, from which it diverged into three extant species as well as some that are now extinct.

Zebras are well-known for their black and white stripes, and have been prominent in African art for millennia, influencing African culture and religion. They are popular in art outside of Africa as well, being described as the most photogenic animal.

The Last of Us Part II

The full extent of a zebra's moral purity was made fully known in The Last of Us Part II, when Abby's father, previously thought of as someone who was willing to kill a fourteen-year-old girl for the slim possibility of producing a cure for infectious spores, proved himself to actually be a virtuous person when he saved a zebra from a trap in a flashback.
